My Testimony: How Fresh Milled Flour Changed My Family’s Life

For as long as I can remember, I knew I couldn’t eat anything made with flour without terrible consequences. Every time I did, I paid the price of severe stabbing stomach pains, extreme swelling throughout my entire body, severe constipation, and relentless fatigue that left me drained for days. Sometimes, the effects would last for weeks or even months. On top of that, I struggled with asthma that made even the simplest tasks exhausting.

I learned to avoid flour as much as I could, but it was in everything. No matter how careful I was, I always seemed to get sick. I never understood why my body reacted this way, I just knew that anything made with flour was my enemy.


The Turning Point

That all changed in 2022, at the age of 27! I had suffered for almost 20 years with these symptoms, never knowing the real cause.

The funny thing is, I had always known about milling. I grew up around Mennonites and missionaries who milled their own flour, but as a child, I never gave it any thought. At that time, my life was spent outdoors, exploring, playing, and living in the moment. The idea of milling flour held no interest for me.

In 2022, a friend who had recently discovered milling suggested I look into it. At first, I brushed it off. After all, I had spent my entire life avoiding flour, so why would I want to start eating it now? But curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to do some research. The first video I came across was Don’t Eat the Bread of Idleness by Sue Becker. That video changed everything.

For the first time, I learned the shocking truth about the flour I had spent my entire life avoiding. The problem wasn’t wheat itself, it was what had been done to it.

Store-bought flour is stripped of its most vital nutrients, especially the germ, which contains essential oils, vitamins, and minerals that God intended for our bodies to use. To extend shelf life, manufacturers remove everything beneficial, leaving behind a nutritionally empty starch. On top of that, they add synthetic vitamins, preservatives, and other chemicals that my body simply could not tolerate.

Everything suddenly made sense. The severe reactions, the bloating, the exhaustion, the stabbing pains. I wasn’t just sensitive to wheat; I was reacting to the processed, lifeless version of it.


A Life-Changing Decision

That very day, I made a decision that would change my life forever. I bought a grain mill and started milling my own flour, using the whole grain just as God designed it. It was a leap of faith, but the results were undeniable.


Within weeks, everything changed!


The severe stomach pains that had controlled my life for nearly two decades completely disappeared. The swelling throughout my body went away. My digestion finally worked the way it was supposed to. My energy returned, and for the first time in as long as I could remember, I felt alive. Even my asthma, something I had suffered from since childhood, started to fade.

A Family-Wide Transformation

But the transformation didn’t stop with me. My husband had his own struggles, dealing with terrible IBS symptoms for years. He had grown so used to the pain, discomfort, and unpredictable digestion that he thought it was just something he had to live with. But when we both switched to fresh milled flour, his symptoms completely disappeared. No more stomach cramps, no more bloating, no more discomfort—his body was finally healing.


Even our daughter, still young at the time, began benefiting from real, whole food. Knowing I was giving her something truly nourishing filled me with peace.


More Than Just Bread: A Calling

As I continued baking and learning, I felt a deep conviction that this wasn’t just about my family. So many people are unknowingly suffering because of what they eat, and I knew I couldn’t keep this knowledge to myself.


I started sharing with friends and family, then baking for others, which led to my micro bakery. Eventually, I launched That Fresh Flour Mama on YouTube to help others make the switch and discover the life-changing power of fresh milled flour.

I’ve now had the opportunity to help all of my sisters-in-laws find the perfect grain mill for their families, so they too can nourish their homes with real, living flour. I’ve been so blessed to helped extended family and friends find mills so their families can thrive again and their bodies can heal. Seeing the transformation in others has been one of the greatest joys of this journey.


Walking in Obedience

This journey hasn’t just been about food, it’s been about obedience. When God opened my eyes to the truth, He gave me a responsibility: to share it and help others find the nourishment He intended for us.

There have been challenges, but every step has been worth it. I’ve seen lives change, families reclaim their health, and people experience the joy of real food again.
